BINDING

Today, I’m sharing a binding, or twisting, yoga sequence I’ve been working through. You can call it binding, constricting, rinsing, twisting, whatever floats your boat. It’s all seen here, and it’s all for the purpose of growth. Which is what most of us want, right?

Most of us know we are pretty flawed individuals, and most of us don’t desire to simply stay where we are. So in light of this, I’ll be sharing how a constricting yoga flow can bring restoration and new life to your body. Let’s just briefly talk about the benefits of constricting. When we engage in twisting postures B.K.S. Iyengar says we are squeezing and soaking our body, by the compression of the internal organs and the release allowing for freshly oxygenated blood to stimulate circulation and release tension. We constrict, so that more space can be created. We bind so that our bodies would be refreshed. We hold in the uncomfortable, and sometimes frustrating, knowing that it is actually allowing for more growth. And while Im talking about yoga, so many principles that are true of our physical body, are also true of our soul.

Have you ever felt like something that would be constricting was actually freeing? Doesn’t that sound counterintuitive? That the constriction or binding of something would actually create more space for growth? As odd as it sounds, I bet you’re able to remember a time when you were constricted and it ended up bringing you more possibilities. You were placed within the bounds of your design, and you flourished.

While I’m sharing a twisting, or rinsing out, flow, this principle is true for much more than yoga. It’s also true for the boundaries God sets in place. The boundaries are not meant to disable us, rather they are meant to benefit us by placing us within His design. Have you ever been frustrated with your current limitations or boundaries? Let’s remind ourselves these boundaries are not meant to disable us, rather they are meant to benefit us by placing us within His design. And what we may view as temporarily constricting, may actually be what gives the space for growth. And we who have trusted Jesus with our life know that it is within His design and His plan that we have true joy. So let us hold in faith, knowing that something far greater is coming.
