My husband went out of town for a week so I decided to pass the time by painting our bedroom! I mean, what better surprise than to leave with a baby blue room and come back to a dark green one?! OK, it wasn’t a complete surprise… we had talked about painting our bedroom quite a bit and he was the one who suggested green. But the timing was a shock! Luckily, he loves it. After he suggested green I searched Pinterest for several months for the perfect shade of green. I knew I would go with either Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams because I have been so pleased with both of their paints. Not too long ago, we updated our guest bathroom with BM Newburyport Blue, and I was so happy with the dark paint against the wood floor and all the white! Studio McGee had such a helpful post on green paint colors, which helped solidify my decision! I bought samples of BM Essex Green and BM Hunter Green and put them on the walls in a few different areas of the bedroom. Our bedroom is pretty big so the lighting can look different in several areas. Truthfully, it was still tough to decide on one but my gut told me I wanted the richness and elegance the hunter green provided so I painted one section of the room in it and knew it was the right decision! The Essex Green was also beautiful, but much darker, and I was worried parts of our room would appear black without the hint of green. Before solidifying the paint color, I toyed around with the idea of a dark teal and looked into BM Salamander but it was too dark for our space. I think it could look great in a space with a chair rail and a lot of natural light. While searching for paint colors I knew I needed pictures of how the paint looked in other peoples spaces so below I’m sharing my inspiration!

OUR BEDROOM BEFORE
Our bedroom has had little updates and pieces added to it over time but painting and wallpaper has made the biggest impact! My dear mom gifted and installed white brick wallpaper on one of her trips here and it was so fun just watching her! I don’t have too many pictures before the wallpaper but here is a picture to show the previous paint color and wallpaper in progress.
OUR BEDROOM AFTER WALLPAPER + PAINT
We all know it, but paint can make such a big statement and I knew I wanted a bold, deep color. I felt like it could work in the room because we had one large wall of white brick wallpaper, a lot of plants to provide contrast and texture, white dressers and trim, and just a large master bedroom. So $40 (and some cleaning up, lots of time, and some new plants) this is what we have!
Our duvet cover, coverlet, and wallpaper is all from Target! The Euro shams are a steal I got of a resell page, but originally from Anthropologie, and the sweater pillow is from West Elm. I try to bring in different texture in each space, but honestly it is a rare occasion for our bed to be this put together! I made our bedside lights in effort to have less on our side tables (which are not pictured because my husband is going to make us some!).
Now onto the main event: the HUNTER GREEN!
I love the way my plants and scarf organizer pop against the dark green walls!
This little nook acts as a dressing station for my husband and entryway to our screened porch. My husband built this bench and created two spaces for cushions and a shelf for shoes. The cushion cover, shelf and floor lamp are all from IKEA! Having a door to our deck in our bedroom makes our room feel like a true retreat! One day I’ll get around to sharing all the pictures of the deck but there are a couple here at the end just for kicks!
That is all for now! The entryway may gain a small rug and we will hopefully have some simple bedside tables I can share with you in the near future, but as for now I’ll leave you with the screened deck my husband built, that we access from our bedroom!
I hope I’ve inspired you to try something bold- in whatever fashion fits you best! I would love to hear your thoughts!
